sweet_peas.jpgSpring offers us very colorful and fragrant flowers that will give life to your home.  Why not treat yourself to a beautiful fresh bouquet?  The flowers will fit into any decor and provide a natural element to your home.  You should consider the container you use to properly accent the arrangement and the style of your room.

Aged ceramic jars or simple clear bulb vases accent a bouquet of colourful sweet peas or stargazer lilies , which are ideal for the kitchen.  The glass and steel in modern environments lends itself to a contemporary rectangular vase filled with tulips in your favourite colour.

To reinforce this atmosphere of spring, change the throw cushion in your living room to a stripe, polka dot, or abstract floral.  This will give your room a sense of whimsy and add an injection of colour, which we all need after this long winter!

Another option is to use colourful fruit as a centerpiece on your kitchen table or island.  Accent this with your favourite fruit scented candle, like the new Sparkling Fruit or tropical pineapple coconut candle and the aroma will fill the room with the scent of spring!

Happy Decorating!

Enjoying Tart Melters in Your Home

  March 23, 2011

What are Tart Melters?

A tart melter is a small decorative plug in device, usually made out of pottery, porcelain or tin, which uses the warmth of a safe heat source to melt small fragranced wax tarts.  Rising in popularity because they are flameless and can be purchased in the same fragrances you enjoy in a scented candle, tart melters are found in most home décor and department stores.

What is a Tart?

A tart is basically a small tart shaped scented candle minus the wick and container that is used in combination with a tart melter.  Once the tart melter is turned on, the wax begins to melt and the scent will be dispersed into the room.  When the scent begins to fade, the tart requires replacement.  To replace a tart, turn off the heat source and allow the wax to cool, after the wax has hardened remove and replace.

Ideas for Scenting your Home

There are many ways to use your tart melter to scent your home.  If you are selling your home, melt bakery or apple & spice type fragrances that reminds the potential buyer of a pie in the oven, it gives a wonderful, homey feeling.  If you enjoy the memories of visiting a maple sugar bush in the spring, choose a “Sugar Shack” fragrance to bring that memory into your home.  Or, if you'd like to remind yourself of the wonderful summer months or your favorite Caribbean vacation, melt a "fruit market" type fragrance.  If you are a restless sleeper, try melting a lavender tart from the Summer Dream collection.  If you have pets or strong odours in your home, try fragrances containing ozone as found in the Pure Air pak, these fragrances help to cleanse the air.

Tart Melter Don’ts

To ensure the safe operation of your tart melter; it is important to bear in mind the following:

  1. Do not overfill your tart melter with wax to avoid spills.
  2. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on your tart melter.  Do not use your tart melter as an oil burner unless the manufacturer’s instructions permit it.
  3. As with all fragrance products, keep the tart melter in a place that is out of the reach of children and pets.

Tart Melter Do’s

  1. Do have fun with the fragrance – combine different fragrances to get a unique scent that you enjoy. Country Home's melter paks include two compatible fragrances that allow you to experiment.
  2. Vary the fragrance you use – the human nose can get desensitized to a fragrance, and you may not smell it after a using the same fragrance for a period of time.  Vary the fragrances you use so that the fragrance is always fresh.
  3. Look for tart melters that match your home’s décor.  There are a number of beautiful melters on the market, always ensure that the melters are CSA approved for your safety.  Country Home Candle Retail Store has a number of melter styles available; come in and see our selection, we'd be happy to suggest a melter that would compliment your style.
Country Home Candle has a variety of tarts available at a reasonable price.  The tarts are made to the same quality you have come to expect in all the products we produce.  All of our tarts are available in bulk, keeping in line with our reduced packaging initiative which minimizes the amount of packaging that would end up in our landfill.  If you have suggestions for tart fragrances, please feel free to write us an email ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ), post it on our facebook page, or come and visit us at our retail location; we’d love to hear from you.
